Psalm 1

traduzido pelo Gemini.

"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you" (John 15:7), for the WORD at the center will give us an understanding of what is truly lawful for us to ask and receive from the Lord, in a parallel with "not as I will, but as You will" (Matthew 26:39), always keeping in mind Psalm 119:105, which says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."

If we want to walk in the paths of righteousness, we must pay attention to what the Psalmist brings us about the Truth and what we have to avoid: "not to walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful" (Psalm 1:1).

John Calvin, in his commentary on the Psalms, will show us an interesting way to begin this verse 1, even though he uses the standard, which is always beautiful to all: "Oh, the blessedness of the man!", a beautiful and emphatic form of expression, in an exclamation that separates the verses in a very interesting way.

And based on these biblical actions of interpretation, I dare to reconstruct the Psalm thus, in a paraphrase but with the same inspired letters:

Oh! The blessedness of the man! Who has his delight in the LAW of the LORD, and in His LAW meditates day and night. This man is like a tree planted by streams of water, which brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. This is because he knows the LAW OF THE LORD, and thus will not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful. The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly/wicked shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

This reminds us of Joshua 1:7: "Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go."

Let us take into account that "the LAW of the LORD is perfect" (Psalm 19:7), "Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Oh, that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes!" (Psalm 119:1, 5), "I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word. Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law" (Psalm 119:15, 16, 18).

The conclusion of Psalm 1 adds wisdom to what Paul will say: "For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself" (Philippians 3:20-21), "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

From this perspective, and with due literary permissions, we will be aware of the role of the WORD OF GOD in our lives in order to avoid/flee from "men who will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth" (2 Timothy 3), "beware of dogs" (Philippians 3:2).

For a long time, these difficult days have been present. We read that Adam and Eve did not listen to the LORD and ended up in "counsels, paths, and tables" where Satan disguised himself as a good counselor... We can also fall for this deceit if we are not vigilant and do not immerse ourselves in the WORD OF GOD. May God bless us every day until the return of our beloved JESUS, who wants His church to be: "holy, pure, glorious, without stain or wrinkle, holy and blameless through the WORD" (Ephesians 5:26-27).

Heaven and hell are real and are the end for everyone, for so it is written.

We will either be the "righteous or the wicked."
